1st Anniversary - 2006
Dedicated to the care of Diabetes, Healthy Life proudly celebrated it's 1 st year of operation. Join the fight against Diabetes; the Silent Killer was the focus of our large scale awareness program. Commemorating our Anniversary, the Clinic organized a three-day program which comprised of an informative breakfast forum at Taj Samudra on 26 th October, followed by two days of Public Awareness Educational sessions on ‘Diabetes as A way of Life' .
Present at the breakfast forum were prominent Guest Speakers, Dr.Sanjeev Kelkar, a Mumbai based Diabetologist and Clinical Researcher and Dr.Supriya Warusavithana, Natioanl Professional Officer from World Health Organization who addressed a gathering of Sri Lanka 's high-flying business giants, Medical delegates and members of the clinic. This forum discussed issues related to Diabetes and its negative impact on the Nation's workforce and the economy. The event was sponsored by Suntel, Johnson & Johnson, Swiss Biogenic, Novartis & Novo Nordisk.
27 th and 28 th of October were spent purposefully at the premises of the Clinic where medical Consultants and other health care professionals conducted presentations that highlighted the implications of Diabetes as being a hormonal disorder that affects the body as a whole and that it should not be treated lightly. Healthy Life laid its emphasis on the fact that Diabetes has not been given the attention it demands and the Clinic took a firm footing in changing this perspective. Awareness is the key to success in controlling diabetes and avoiding complications. This was the vital message that Healthy Life was sending out to the general public.
Bearing this in mind, the Clinic programmed sessions comprising of free blood sugar testing interactive discussions, presentations on heart risk, diabetes complications relating to the eye, kidney and feet, Diabetes in pregnancy, children and adolescents, healthy eating, exercise and yoga tips. To substantiate healthy eating principles which is a cornerstone in Diabetes management, ‘Cooking Healthy' was the objective for a cookery demonstration, organized by Culinary Specialist, Nalin Narampanawa a member of the Stassen Group.
It is of recent understanding that Diabetes affects children as severely as adults and Healthy Life innovatively set out to introduce the necessity of making healthy food choices by children so that behaviour modification is inculcated earlier in life.25 children listened to a story telling session that spoke of the importance of healthy eating and being active. This was then pictorially illustrated afterward by the children. Gifts were distributed to all for participating & Our Judge, from Stafford International, selected three winners, based on creativity & how well they portrayed the theme.
Having had a successful year end, it is with great enthusiasm that the Clinic looks forward to treating and preventing Diabetes in every way possible.
